Thank goodness styling gel is un-controversial. Either you use it and like it or you don’t. However, there are all these levels of hold (light, medium, strong, helmet) and, as in all things, quality grades. The thing about the cheaper ones that really sucks is they flake. Not only that, but they actually damage your hair by sucking the moisture out of it. It’s not like you’ll die or even catch the flu if you use the crappy kind, but might it be worth paying a little more for a product that makes you look better-groomed, if only because you could get a little extra action in the sack?

People who like it say 1) it’s the best gel they’ve ever used because it holds their hair in place all day in a natural “ungelled” look 2) it’s got the perfect hold level—not too strong so it looks like helmet hair, not too light so the hair is flying away

People who didn’t like it said 1) the hold level isn’t strong enough
