Because of the trendiness of this product category, initially I was dubious about introducing a pre-shave oil. As usual, however, sweetly diligent Jack overcame my crabby objections by simply preparing a few test formulations and asking me to try them. Wowie-kazowie. It’s like a parallel universe of shaving. I think the reason more isn’t being made of these oils is companies are afraid customers will completely replace their shave creams with them. Heck, whatever works best. I still use the oil plus our cream for one good reason and one stupid reason: the stupid reason is because I can see where I’m shaving. The good reason is the combination creates the perfect interplay between glide (the oil) and drag (the cream) that makes for my ideal shave. You’d have to experiment to see what works best for you. To set our product apart from the crowd, we’ve used the very lightest, high-grade botanical oils including rare ones like meadowfoam, kukui nut and borage. You gotta trust me on this one—it’s sublime. (Usage hint: this stuff works best if you've doused your face with the hottest temperature of water you can stand just prior--or better yet, applied a washcloth that's been soaked in hot water to your face for a minute or two. You want to make sure that your face is moist-to-wet before applying the oil. Put a small amount--a few drops--in your palms and apply to your face, rubbing it around briskly to raise the whiskers. They should stand at attention, like they're, um, excited. Apply shave cream and shave. You may be astonished at how great your skin feels afterwards.]
