When you go to the shampoo aisle at the drugstore, or if you get your hair cut at the kind of fancy salon where they have an intimidating wall of expensive stuff from which you're expected to select after already spending a week's salary just for the cut/highlight/full overhaul, you're accustomed to seeing lots of brands and within those brands, a veritable orgy of choices based on your supposed hair type. Dry hair? Oily hair? Oily at the root, dry at the end, sort of angst-ridden in the middle? Color-treated? Frizzy? Frazzled? Protein-starved? Over-proteinified? Dull, lackluster and prone to being left out at social gatherings?

Cha-fricking-ching. It's called marketing. When you have some time one day, and if you can stand the withering stare from the horrifying creature working on commission who is trying to cram the stuff into your shopping bag, compare the ingredients from two, three or seventeen of the bottles. If you have a cool cell phones with internet access, punch in the ingredients and even though they have some different hooky-spooky sounding names, you'll see that, oops, they're all the same, except for some nice, natural-sounding stuff at the very, very end of all the lists, meaning they comprise less than 1% of the total (translation: the manufacturer waved the same jar of "licorice seed extract" over the vat that they've been using since 1952).

The bottom line is that an ultrapremium shampoo like ours works best for 95% of the people in the world because all this bunk about "hair type" is marketing invention, pure and simple, to lead you to buy ever more, ever newer stuff from the big companies like Proctor & Gamble on the low (drugstore) end and Aveda and Kiehl's on the high (salon and department store) end. Think about it: if you start out with a top-grade shampoo that gentle cleanses the hair without stripping it, then it's gonna work for just about everyone. People with oilier hair generally won't need to condition, while people with drier hair will--that's why conditioners exist. Trying to make a shampoo do a conditioner's job (which is another way of saying, "Here's our new conditioning shampoo for dry hair!) is like trying to make a refrigerator that also cooks your meal--it's counterintuitive. Same goes for stripping shampoos for oily-hair. It's such a bad idea, because then your hair follicles get the message, "Hey, we're totally dried-out! Guess we better produce lots of oil!!" So they do, and the tragic cycle continues.

Ours works better because we spend all the money on the ingredients, not the marketing and overhead. The only way to find out, though, is to try it. If you're dubious, try the travel-size first. Do be aware, though, that you need to use the shampoo consistently, for about a week or so, to experience its benefits. At that point, your hair will have been washed clean of all the gunk that's built-up over time and will also have gotten used to this purer type of formulation.

People who like it say 1) it smells better and "more natural, less sickly sweet" than anything they’ve ever used but that the smell doesn’t “stick” to their hair, 2) that it makes their hair look better than ever before and they actually get compliments, 3) that they're surprised by how long a bottle lasts

People who didn’t like it said 1) they don’t like lavender (or rosemary or peppermint) in the fragrance; 2) they wanted a stronger (soapier) formulation because their hair was especially difficult to clean.
