It's hard to find a top-notch conditioner that fully hydrates each hair shaft without weighing it down with low-grade, foul-smelling oily residues. In fact, most conditioners are the spiritual cousins of Bubble Gum ice cream. When we noted this gap in the market, that's where we concentrated our efforts. Again, the solution wasnt rocket science; rather, it was simple willingness to spend the resources on the best (and in this case rarest) available ingredients.
The key to delivering intensive hydration & volume without excess oiliness lies in the nut of the exotic shea tree and even more importantly, in the specific extraction process we use. Traditional, time-intensive cold pressing yields minimal free fatty acids but high concentrations of unsaponifiables. Huh? Well, what they do is provide superior moisturizing while creating a smooth, emollient barrier between the hair shaft and harmful external elements like dirt and pollution. Astringent extracts of green tea and sage, rather than harsh chemicals, are added for pH balance. Something called Behentrimonium methosulfate (google it, and you'll see that it comes from natural canola oil and is considered a must-have ingredient in any super-premium hair conditioner) provides excellent detangling and shine properties so hair looks and feels silky, shiny and full of body.
Just to sort of set the record straight on what we're doing when we condition the hair, we first must recognize that hair is basically and epidemiologically dead skin. So a conditioner is actually trying to moisturize dead skin cells (I know, creepy). And again we have a situation where the beauty industry has mesmerized us all into believing our hair isn't dead, its just, you know, sleeping, and we must squirt great gobs of goop on it morning noon and night when the goop they're peddling is smelly, greasy and simply creates the need to shampoo more often, can we all say it together, Cha-Ching!
Would you put that goopy junk they call conditioner on your SKIN, given that its main job is to moisturize? We wouldn't either. Our conditioner, in contrast, contains no artificial color or fragrance and is so high-grade that some of our customers actually DO use it as a moisturizer. (They do this because we don't offer a scented body moisturizer.)
